Cybershore is pleased offer Spam and virus protection to its web-hosting customers.

By using a dedicated system we are able to dramatically reduce Spam and help block viruses. We have been providing this system to our Internet connectivity users for over two years. The system is currently blocking up to 90% of incoming SPAM and catches thousands of viruses daily. Check out this graphical stat.

How does it work?
Currently your email is delivered directly to our mail server without passing through any filters. With our SPAM/Virus protection mail would first be sent to a dedicated SPAM filter server. This server uses a variety of criteria to determine if the mail is SPAM. Numerous filters are used as well as nationwide blocking services. In addition scripts are run continuously that seek and block new Spammers in real time.

We chose to name the service SPAM Sentry and the administration web site SPAMTRAP

What happens to the email?
Each email is judged by the Spam filters and given a rating. If it looks like SPAM, smells like SPAM and tastes like SPAM it is rejected. On the other hand, if it just looks like SPAM, it will be placed in quarantine. Daily you will get a notice of emails that have been quarantined. You can then review the listing for valid senders. If a valid sender's email was quarantined, you can whitelist them so all future emails from them come through to your inbox. You can blacklist addresses or entire domains as well.

Delivery of mail determined to contain a virus is blocked. A message is sent to the recipient. To view an example of the message please send email to virusmessage@cshore.com. The sever will automatically send you back an example of the warning email sent.

Why is SPAM bad?
According to industry experts countless hours are wasted reading and deleting SPAM. SPAM is expected to cost American corporations $10 billion in 2003 or about $14 per user, per month, according to Ferris Research. Also a large number of SPAM is objectionable in content and images. Finally numerous scams are perpetuating via SPAM. According to the 2002 Internet Fraud Report, victims of Internet fraud lost US $54 million in 2002, up from the $17 million they lost in 2001.

Will I still get SPAM and viruses?
Yes, you still will get some SPAM. However, the number will be dramatically reduced. We are constantly enhancing our system to block SPAM while endeavoring not to block legitimate mail. In addition, no Virus blocking system can guarantee 100% accuracy. At the very least we suggest all customers run a virus checking program on their workstations and servers as an added precaution. Also note viruses can spread from sources other than email. There have even been cases of shrink wrapped software containing viruses. You may download a free fully functional anti-virus program from www.grisoft.com (windows only)

I'm not getting email from a subcribed list?
Many lists for various reason might give a false positive and be flagged as SPAM by our software. If this happens whitelist the mailing list's address in the SPAMTRAP.

I am still getting SPAM, what can I do?
No system will block 100% of SPAM. There are a few steps you can take to further reduce Spam.

Don't request to be removed from SPAM lists as this merely confirms your email is valid.

If you enter a lot of contests, or register for coupons or gifts, you may be registering for more SPAM. You should check the reputation of any company that you give personal information to, even if it is just your email address.

Or you can use a throw away email address in these cases, such as a free Yahoo or Hotmail address.

Lastly don't purchase products or service from SPAMMERS.

How do I sign up?
You will need to supply the registration number, which is located on your statement. It takes approximately 48 hours to setup your account. The SPAM and virus blocking will be fully operational within 24 hours of setup.

How much does it cost?
The additional cost is $10 a month for each block of 5 email addresses. Thus if you have 10 mailboxes the monthly charge would be $20.00 in additional to the regular web hosting charges.

What change do I need to make?
Nothing is required on your part. Cybershore servers do all the work. The filtering is transparent to the user.

Thank you for your interest in our new SPAM and virus filtering service,
